Grantor

Also called: settlor, trustor

In plain English

The person who creates a trust and puts assets into it.

In tax language this person is called the grantor; in state trust codes, often the settlor or trustor. All three terms refer to the same role — the person whose wishes the trust expresses and whose property initially funds it.
